Wuhan Dongfeng Avenue China Steel Box Girder Synchronous Launching System
Project Overview :
The Wuhan Dongfeng Avenue bridge is 5808 meters long. The L7 span over the Xinmin River is 58+89+58 meters, and needs to be launched over the Xinmin River in Wuhan, China.
Engineering Challenges :
- Load Management: Due to the extended length and configuration of the steel box girder, combined with the limited load-bearing capacity of each pier, variations in load distribution across the piers during launching must be precisely controlled and monitored to avoid overloading.
- Lateral Force Constraints: The piers have restricted side-loading capacity, necessitating a launching system that minimizes lateral forces to protect the structure.
- Directional Precision: Fine adjustments are required to ensure the girder launches in the exact intended direction, maintaining alignment accuracy throughout the process.
- Final Positioning: Upon reaching each pier, the girder must be gently lowered onto the bearing pads to secure proper placement.
To overcome these challenges, the YIPU Hydraulic engineering team designed, fabricated, and commissioned a computerized synchronous incremental launching system tailored for the project.
This advanced system integrates a central computer controller with high-pressure, high-tonnage YIPU lifting jacks, an X-Y adjustment sliding mechanism, pushing jacks, and load/stroke sensors.
All launching units are interconnected via communication cables, enabling real-time synchronization. Launching forces are continuously monitored and regulated to prevent excessive lateral loads on the piers, while load distribution at each point is maintained within safe design limits.
For directional corrections, the side-adjustment sliding mechanism allows precise fine-tuning without interrupting the launch.
