SMU Intelligent Roof open-Close System
Project Overview :
The membrane roof at Singapore Management University (SMU) features a distinctive curved design and is engineered to meet stringent fire safety regulations, requiring it to open within a specified timeframe during a fire. Unlike conventional systems, this roof operates using gravity for the opening action, eliminating the need for a power supply or standby battery maintenance.
Our Solution
The closing mechanism is powered by the building’s electrical supply and controlled from a central control room, ensuring seamless operation.
The primary challenge lies in managing the descent speed of the roof during the gravity-driven opening to prevent structural damage upon stopping. To address this, YIPU engineers developed an advanced hydraulic damping system. This system precisely regulates the descent speed and incorporates a hydraulic damper at the stopping point, ensuring the roof segment comes to a gentle, controlled stop without impacting the structure.
