Raffles Institution Teaching Building Roof Open and Close System

Project Overview :

At one of the teaching blocks of Raffles Institution in Singapore, the atrium features a dynamic roof system designed to enhance environmental comfort. This innovative roof can be opened to allow natural sunlight and improve ventilation on clear days, while closing to provide shelter during inclement weather. To comply with stringent fire safety regulations, the roof is engineered to automatically open in the event of a fire, ensuring adequate ventilation within a specified timeframe.

Our Solution

YIPU designed, delivered, and installed a sophisticated battery-operated roof system to meet these requirements. Integrated with the building’s fire alarm system, the roof is powered by a standby battery, enabling independent operation unaffected by disruptions to the building’s main power supply. In the event of a fire alarm activation, the system ensures the roof opens fully within 30 seconds, facilitating rapid ventilation and enhancing safety.

System Components:

  • 1 battery-operated roof opening and closing mechanism

  • 1 standby battery power system

  • 1 fire alarm integration controller
