Hydraulic Operated Slip Form Lifting System for Shanghai Centre Construction

Project Overview :

The Shanghai Centre, towering at 635 meters in Shanghai’s Lujiazui Financial District, is China’s tallest building. Its central core was constructed using an advanced slip form construction method, enabling the formwork to progress seamlessly from the 5th to the 127th floor as concrete was poured sequentially.

Engineering Challenges

The slip formwork, weighing 1,350 tons and spanning five levels with a height of 23.35 meters, was elevated using a sophisticated hydraulic lifting system. This system comprised 36 sets of 3.2-meter-long stroke jacks and 64 sets of locking cylinders, which securely anchored the formwork to the cast concrete wall during the lifting process.

Our Solution

A state-of-the-art computerized controller, designed by YIPU, synchronized 32 lifting jacks, organized into eight groups, with a precision tolerance of ±2.5 mm at a lifting speed of 150 mm/min. The controller also fully integrated the 64 locking cylinders, ensuring precise locking and unlocking during the formwork clamping process.

The entire operation was fully automated, with real-time monitoring of stroke and pressure for each jack group, alongside comprehensive data logging. This ensured exceptional safety, efficiency, and precision throughout the construction process.
