Container Spreader Load Test System
Project Overview :
To comply with regulatory requirements, container spreaders must undergo an annual overload test at 1.25 times their rated load. Traditionally, this involves loading a container with the specified overload and lifting it using a quayside crane, followed by a 30-minute hold to inspect for defects. This method, however, poses significant safety risks due to the potential failure of the lifted container, endangering personnel.

Our Solution
To address these challenges, YIPU engineers developed an innovative spreader overload testing system that eliminates the need for a container as the test load. In this advanced system, the spreader is securely anchored to a test bed floor. Two movable, hydraulic-operated loading frames, each powered by a hydraulic cylinder, are positioned on either side. These frames connect to the spreader’s connecting pin via a crossbeam, with two loading cylinders equipped with precision load cells to ensure accurate force application.
A sophisticated computerized controller, preloaded with a specialized load testing program, enables users to preconfigure the test load and procedure. Upon activation, the loading cylinders apply the required force through the hydraulic power pack, with real-time load values displayed on a monitor. The system automatically logs data for record-keeping and generates reports for compliance, ensuring a streamlined and traceable process.
This cutting-edge system eliminates the need for costly quayside cranes and enhances safety by allowing the entire test to be conducted at the push of a button, minimizing risks to personnel.
