Computerized Strand Lifting System for PSA Port Crane Concrete Beam Installation

Project Overview :

In 2007, as part of the PSA Singapore container port expansion, 300 concrete beams, each weighing over 600 tons, were to be installed for container lifting cranes at a height of up to 25 meters above the pier.

Engineering challenges

Given the large number of components and the tight project timeline, the contractor prioritized work efficiency. Selecting a system that combined high safety and high efficiency was critical to the project’s success.

Our solution

YIPU Hydraulic‘s engineering team designed, supplied, and provided technical support for a four-point, fully computer-controlled synchronous strand lifting system. This system automated the strand lifting cycle by precisely controlling the chucking sequence of the top and bottom strand chucks, synchronized with the lifting and lowering of the main jack. This automation eliminated the time-consuming manual operation of hand valves, significantly improving efficiency.

The computerized controller not only saved time but also minimized human error, reducing the risk of strand breakage and enhancing safety. The system synchronized all lifting points, with the weight at each point closely monitored to maintain the beam’s level during installation.

The project was completed six months ahead of schedule, demonstrating the system’s effectiveness and reliability.
