China Beipanjiang Bride Steel Truss Synchronous Incremental Launching System

Project Overview :

The Beipanjiang Bridge, a critical component of the Hangrui Expressway in Guizhou and Yunnan provinces, spans 1,341 meters. With its highest point elevated 594 meters above sea level, it holds the distinction of being the world’s highest bridge to date.

Engineering Challenges :

A primary challenge in the bridge’s construction was the requirement to jack the truss beam at specific nodes and designated locations. This necessitated a launching system capable of moving in tandem with the truss until it reached the next jacking point.

YIPU Hydraulic addressed this challenge by designing and implementing a sophisticated computerized load-following launching system, built on advanced synchronous launching technology. During the launching process, the launcher units move synchronously with the truss until it arrives at the next jacking location. At this point, the load is transferred to temporary supports, allowing the launcher units to return to their initial positions to begin the cycle anew.

The integrated computer control system provides precise solutions for:

  • Synchronizing the movement of all launcher units to prevent excessive pushing loads on the piers.

  • Monitoring and adjusting the load at each launching point to optimize the launching operation.

  • Coordinating the jacking and lowering of the truss during load transfer to temporary supports.

System consisted

1. 10 sets of 1,600-ton load-following launcher units

2. 10 sets of high-pressure hydraulic power packs equipped with sensors

3. A computerized control system for seamless operation
